Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Teachers:
In college, I had a professor that was known for being unpleasant and was sexist towards female engineers. He did not have my best interest at heart.
How I responded:
Instead of being discouraged by his opinions and prejudices, I continued to work hard towards getting my degree in bioengineering. Due to the dynamic between students and well-known university professors, I chose to not confront him or speak up about it. Instead, I tried to block it out and avoid it as much as possible, but when I did face discrimination, I tried to not take it personally. In the end, I was able to get though it and was able to pass the class.
