How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Friends:
Computer programming is a predominately male industry and as a woman you'll have a hard time fitting in. They also said I'd have to approach a career and the workplace the way men do in order to be successful—play the game.
How I responded:
Once I discovered a career option that felt like such a fit, I didn't care that it might be an uphill battle. In fact, I secretly enjoyed the surprise from people when they found out that's what I did for a living. And, later in my career I realized it was ok to question and even change how things have traditionally been done even if men see them as a traditionally female approach.
