My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
First, I got diagnosed with Lupus when I was 16, so I wanted to help others in similar situations.
2.
But then I volunteered in a hospital and didn't enjoy it.
3.
So I started volunteering and working for non-profits in an administrative setting.
4.
But was not fulfilled doing office work and didn't feel like I was creating anything useful.
5.
I tried pursuing a Masters in Social Work (because I wanted to help people).
6.
But after a few months, my gut told me that this wasn't the path for me and I dropped out.
7.
So I took a risk and tried coding bootcamps but found coding wasn't for me.
8.
But then as a result, I discovered UX design and fell in love!
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
You should get a corporate, 9-5 job and climb the ladder.
How I responded:
Whatever you do, always feed your soul. Your work should lift you up, not tear you down. So pay attention to things that interest you and get you excited about life.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
When I was 16 yo, I was diagnosed with Lupus. In college, I had to go through chemo and it didn't allow me to focus deeply on what I wanted to do in life because I was so focused on my health. However, it taught me to be a good person and to practice gratitude.
