I've taken a lot of twists and turns
1.
In high school I felt internationally ignorant - an Italian girlfriend & wealthy boss confirmed this.
2.
I promised myself I would travel to a new country every year for the rest of my life. My own eyes.
3.
Then Sept 11 happened. I skipped out on a Sumatra surf trip and refocused on education.
4.
Studying international biz at a local community college & catering for the wealthiest families in SD.
5.
In 2002, I went to Indonesia, learning the truth behind happiness. I've honored my promise ever since.
6.
Education stuck. I transferred to UCSD for my undergrad/masters. Leisure travel matured to work.
7.
I've lived & worked in Brazil, attended UN climate negotiations, taught sustainability in Australia.
8.
After working for the richest & poorest families in the world, my perspective on happiness runs deep.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Family:
How tall are you? Are you married? How much money do you make?
How I responded:
Follow your happiness, first and foremost. Before starting the journey, try to understand what makes you happy and why. For me, it has changed over the years. When I was a teenager, I was just happy to be outside playing - especially w/ friends. In my 20's, what started as international wanderlust morphed into a sense of international responsibility & a commitment to make the world a better place. The next stage, the one I am in now, is how to turn life skills into tangible benefits for society.
