Life & Career Milestones
My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
Aiming to outearn my parents, I pursued a business degree in college, followed by an MBA, envisioning a corporate future.
2.
Internships revealed that the corporate world wasn't a great fit for me, so I fell back on a lingering interest in public education.
3.
I tried substitute teaching for a year and realized the classroom setting wasn't my calling either.
4.
I decided to pursue a PhD in social and cultural studies in education, seeking to apply theory to community.
5.
I fell into community organizing, leading to 18 years in the field, including working in Sacramento schools.
6.
After reconnecting with Parent Teacher Home Visits, I transitioned from consulting for the organization to serving as the executive director.
7.
Now leading the organization, I strive to enhance family engagement in schools nationwide.
